April marks the arrival of the Qingming Festival in Taiwan. This traditional time for honoring ancestors is closely linked to the "Cold Food Festival" (Hanshi Festival). Historically, since starting a fire for cooking was forbidden during this festival, the tradition of eating "Popiah" (fresh spring rolls) emerged. These are cold rolls made by wrapping pre-prepared vegetables and various ingredients in a soft thin skin. Over time, the traditions of the Cold Food Festival merged with Qingming, and preparing Popiah for ancestral offerings became a common practice.
This event aims to promote cross-cultural exchange through this unique culinary tradition. In addition to providing authentic Popiah for everyone to enjoy, we sincerely welcome international students to share their own countries' special festivals, family traditions, or unique food cultures.
We cordially invite you to bring stories from your home country and join us in exploring diverse cultures through this exchange.
