此次體驗活動之設計，立基於「西洋中世紀聖像畫其象徵和指涉」的觀看。西洋中世紀藝術因為宗教性強，往往較少受到關注，但跳過她常使古典與文藝復興之間產生斷裂，聯繫起來則往往能使得承繼古典並蘊含基督宗教精神的文藝復興, 在人文主義及宗教性上的詮釋獲得貫通。我認為以歐洲文化藝術為名的本課程，古典和基督宗教文化自當為其基礎, 並應提供完整而非縮減的課程。
對西洋中世紀聖像畫的默觀體驗，正是在此脈絡下所生。宗教美學上，學生將能通過此體驗明瞭西洋中世紀圖像藝術的原初功用和意義；藝術美學上，則能將視覺語言和文化象徵的分析，廣泛應用在視覺文化的解析和詮釋。未來將採取混和方式，即一場包括體驗的演講，會先行觀摩短片，再帶領體驗，尤鼓勵採取宗教美學與藝術美學的雙重視覺分析及想像同時並行，相信應更能產生興趣，完成目標、啟發學習動力。
