Professor Anna Rudakowska 安娜 organized this event so that students can learn about the impact of advertisements on our perception of others and ourselves. The workshop will consist of two
parts: lecture and workshop. Prof. Anna invited to this lecture an artist and Ph.D. Student – Renata Maria Gogol. Ms. Gogol received NAVA Scholarship from the Polish government to study Taiwanese art.
According to estimations of marketing experts, an average person sees between 4 000 to 10 000 commercials per day. Nowadays, ads sell products and create needs and social norms. During the short presentation, students will be shown examples of particularly harmful yet normalized (widely accepted in society) images used to advertise various products – from luxury couture brands to daily groceries such as coffee or beer. Students will get the chance to discover patterns that stand behind creating unhealthy lifestyles and disordered body image. To balance the negativity, examples of good practices in advertising will be discussed.
Collage-making workshop
Afterward, provided with those basics, participants will have the chance to design their own advertisement – recycling images and texts from fashion and lifestyle magazines, they will be encouraged to create a collage that will promote a product or value truly important for them. The workshop part of the meeting will focus on letting participants express themselves by creating an image that will feel representative for them.
